The Difference between a Wig and A Toupee

The use of a wig or a toupee are very different. A wig is a to cover the full head entirely whether the wearer has hair or not. A wig can be taken off easily and doesn’t need any special glues to hold it in place. The wig is elasticised and will hold firmly on the wearer comfortably.

A toupee is used to cover a bald spot on the wearer’s head. A special adhesive is applied to hold the toupee in place. It is usually for males and not so much for females. A good toupee needs to be fitted by a specialist to integrate the toupee with the wearer’s own hair. Usually the wearer will need to go back to the stylist to have it removed as well. If you don’t want to apply the toupee with glue, it can be attached with clips but it may not be as secure as if the adhesive is used.

Caring for a wig or a toupee will require special shampoo and conditioner formulated for wigs and toupees. The only difference would be that you can take your wig off and wash it in a basin and a Toupee you would wash while wearing the hairpiece.

Whether you choose a toupee or a wig is a personal preference. Both can look fabulous and give you a boost of confidence of your appearance.

On the right is an image of the inside of a toupee. Toupee’s constructions can vary. The toupees that we have in stock have a monofiliament base and a medical strip around the edge to aid in applying glue or adhesive. As you can see on the mannequin it doesn’t cover the whole head.

Capp_Tabs And to the left you can see the inside construction of a wig which can vary. This wig has a mono filament top and a wefted back. At the base of the wig are some tabs to adjust for size.

Hair pieces for Calisthenics Clubs

There is a large number of Calisthenics Clubs in Australia. Calisthenics is an artistic sport that involves Dance, gymnastics, singing, apparatus manipulation and ballet, and performance in theatres. It is quite unique to Australia. Many teams these days buy hairpieces so the team can all look similar to enhance their performance on stage. It makes life so much easier than having to style everyone’s hair the same.

Most Calisthenics clubs are run by voluntary individuals who give up their time to organise dance concerts, make up, hair and competitions. We offer a wholesale program for all clubs who order at least 10 pieces at a time. We try to make it as easy as possible from all involved. We just need you to call us on 1300 79 75 79 to organise your order. The order can be sent out via mail as soon as we have it all in stock. Most colours and styles we carry quite a large stock and we can dispatch as soon as payment is made. However, some unusual colours may require for us to order in specially. We suggest that you order at least 3 weeks before you need the pieces just to make sure you receive them in time.

We have colour rings that the Clubs can buy so they can match up the colour to the students each year. If it is not practical then we can colour match if the club is prepared to give us small samples.

Euronext is a collection of lightweight synthetic classic wigs for the more mature women. The synthetic wigs cannot be styled with heat but there is no need to. What causes hair Loss?

Causes of Hair loss

We all naturally lose hair from our scalp everyday. It can be quite normal to lose 50 to 100 hairs a day without causing any noticeable difference. As we age our hair will begin to gradually thin. Other causes of hair loss include Hormonal Factors, Medical Conditions, Medications, Stress, Hair Pulling disorders and traction hair loss resulting from Cornrows or pigtails.

Hormonal factors:

We are all susceptible to different things due to our genetic make up. Men tend to lose more hair as they age than women but not always. Women tend to lose more hair through pregnancy and childbirth. As well, Menopause can also bring on more hair loss.

Medical Conditions:

There are a wide range of reasons for people to lose hair though a sickness or disorder. Including some of the reasons below:

Thyroid Problems – Our thyroid regulates our hormone levels and if this isn’t working then hair loss can be experienced.

Scalp Infections – Our scalp gives blood flow to our hair which promotes hair growth. Massaging your scalp is very beneficial to keep the blood flowing and give our hair luster.

Skin Disorders – Diseases can cause scarring which can also result in hair loss.

Medications:

Hair loss can be be caused by some medications that are used to treat cancer, Arthritis, Depression, Heart problems and High Blood Pressure.

Other Causes:

There can be other simple causes like a physical or emotional shock that cause some hair thinning.

Should I buy Remy Hair?

Remy Hair Extensions are becoming more popular by movie stars, model and the fashion conscious person alike. Its not always easy to know if what you buying is exactly what it claims to be. Remy hair and virgin hair are labels that manufacturers use all the time and some use it quite loosely. So how do you know what you are getting?

The label of the hair is based on the characteristics of the hair and the method use to manufacture the hair. Most Remy hair is sourced from Asia, in particularly India. Some is sourced from Brazil and Russia as well. When collected most Remy is black, so it goes through a process to clean and sterilize the hair to make it safe for the wearer. Most hair is dyed into other colours to give a full spectrum of colours available.

Once the hair is collected, the manufacturer cuts and shapes the hair to be ready to manufacture into wigs and hair extensions. The texture can be changed to wavy or straight as desired. The hair is crafted to make sure the cuticles of the hair ( outer layer) all face the same direction which keeps it real looking and helps it from tangling. This gives the hair a silky smooth feel as well as keeping the natural shine of the hair.

Remy hair is more expensive the regular human hair. It is not always easy to tell just by looking at the hair. Some will be labelled as Virgin and remy hair. Virgin hair is usually black and unprocessed hair.

If the price seems really low then it probably is not Remy hair. Remy takes a lot more work to manufacture and is more expensive. To start with the hair may look great but if it starts to tangle or matt then it probably wasn’t Remy hair to start with.

Remy Hair extensions should last anything from 3 months to 6 months with regular care and maintenance.

Is it worth the extra expensive? Well that is a personal preference and some A Grade Human hair is an excellent quality. We do stock some wefts that are not remy but they are an A grade quality which we never have problems with. As a consumer you want to know that what you are buying is exactly what it claims to be. You don’t want to be paying the price of Remy hair if it is not Remy. Always buy your hair products from a reliable and reputable source. Reputable companies are those who will stand by their product. Always buy from a company who you can converse with over the phone and have a generous returns policy. It is also best to buy from a local supplier so if you have problems you are not going to spend a fortune returning it to an overseas company. All these things need to be taken into account.

Hair Loss while undergoing Chemotherapy

Hair Loss can occur for so many reasons. It could be stress, illness, hormonal changes, pregnancy, medication or many other reasons. Sometimes Hair loss will occur just on the scalp or it may occur all over the body. Hair Loss on our scalp and our eyebrows would probably be the most concerning areas for many people.

Wigs, hairpieces, false eyebrows or eyelashes are all very useful depending on the purpose you need it and how much hair loss you are experiencing. If you are starting chemotherapy, here is a few tips to consider:

– Do some research to find out what type of wig you think you may like. Some people prefer to stay as close to their hair style as possible, while others like to try new styles.

-Have the wig ready before you loose your hair so you can chose the wig without the stress that you need one immediately. Also, it gives you time to have a play with your wig and get used to the idea of wearing a wig.

– Once you start Chemotherapy you may feel very ill and choosing a wig might be the last thing you feel like doing.

-Browse the internet for wigs and styles that you may like. It takes time to decide which wig that you think may suit you.

– Have a chat to your hairdresser to see if he /she would be able to help you customize your wig. For example, to cut a few layers or shape a fringe to your liking.

– Ask a close friend to have a look at a few different wigs with you. Sometimes your close friends can point out something that you haven’t thought of and help boost your confidence.

– Buy the best quality wig that you can afford. Cheap nasty wigs are not going to help you feel good. Sometimes it better to choose a good synthetic rather than a cheap human hair wig.

– Consider a synthetic wig as they are easier to care for and they keep their shape after washing. Very little styling is required for a synthetic hair wig. Human hair wigs are luxurious but they do require more styling.

– When you are undergoing chemotherapy your scalp can become sensitive. Buy a wig cap to put a barrier between your scalp and wig.

– Use good Salon quality shampoo and conditioner to take care of your wig and wash it regularly.

– Find out from your health fund or if there are any government assistance funds that can help with covering the cost of your wig.

– If you lose hair on your eyebrows consider false eyebrows, they are not that expensive and they will make you feel like you. Our Eyebrows gives our face definition. We are so used to seeing our eyebrows in the mirror that we feel very odd without them.

– As well as False Eyebrows there are some very simple to use false eyelashes that can help as well if you feel the need for them.

– Remember we are all different and what feels right for one person may not be for someone else. Do what makes you feel good. And don’t forget to ask for help – true friends and family never mind giving a helping hand.

Even though we are on the other side of the world and going into Summer rather than Winter the new collection is still very welcomed and appropriate for our climate. Elite – The O’solite open cap range. The O’solite really are ideal for our Summer weather. It is a wefted wig that makes it extremely cool for our hot summers. They are so light and easy to wear. They can be styled with a comb and some hair spray or gel whichever you like. It is such a versatile wig.

Elizabeth – Heat Defiant Lace Front /Monofiliament Synthetic Wig. I just love the softness of the waves and the way it just frames the face.

Elsa – Heat Defiant Collection Open Cap. This gives you the versatility of a synthetic wig and being able to style it with Heat. Do be careful when styling and only use a low heat to protect the fibers. The Heat defiant fibers can be styled with heat up to 130 degress celcius. The wefted back makes it cool enough to wear even on the hots days. it features a smartlace front which gives you an exquisite natural looking hair line at the front.

Amber
Smart Lace / Monofiliament Wig. This would be my all time favorite wig. It looks so natural with the long layers that have a natural flow about them. And this wig can be ordered in a Large Cap size which is not easy to find as some of you may know.

Top Level – A New Synthetic Hair Topper that is attached via a clip. You can comfortably attach it to the crown. It is 10” – 16” due to the different layer lengths. It gives such a feminine look of the long layers falling so elegantly over your shoulders. At the time of writing this we don’t have it in stock but you can give us a call and we will order in any pieces that you are interested in.

Gwyneth – Human hair Smart Lace /Mono filiament Wig. This is the most expensive wig to arrive out of this collection but it is absolutely exquisite. If you are interested in this wig you may need to give us a call so we can help you with a special order.
